~ To be born in certain months is not good? ~
Have you ever heard the word “haya umare”?
Being born between January and March is called haya umare.
When I saw a friend the other day, she said that she wanted to plan her second child
to be born between April and fall, not between January and March.
Actually, there are some people in Japan who think that
being born between January and March is a disadvantage.
Do you have such a concept like hayaumare in your country?
【Today’s words】
~ Why 早生まれ is said to be a disadvantage? ~
Japanese school year starts in April.
So, for example, kids born in April in 2023 and kids born in January ~ March in 2024
are in the same grade.
Kids born in April are almost one year older than kids born in January ~ March.
So, especially when they’re little, it’s said that there is a gap of academic or physical ability between them.
Some parents think that it’s a disadvantage.
And because of the system in Japan, it’s said that it’s difficult for haya umare kids’ parents to find a nursery.
These are the main reasons why 早生まれ is a disadvantage.
What do you think?
