~ 100 -1 = 99 ~
日本では、長寿祝いといって、60歳以上の色々な年齢でお祝いをします。
60歳は還暦、70歳は古希、77歳は喜寿など、それぞれの年齢にそれぞれの名前があります。
99歳は白寿というのですが、なぜ白という漢字を使うかわかりますか？
にほんでは、ちょうじゅ いわい といって、ろくじゅっさい いじょうの いろいろな ねんれいで おいわいを します。
ろくじゅっさいは かんれき、ななじゅっさいは こき、ななじゅうななさいは きじゅ など、それぞれの ねんれいに それぞれの なまえが あります。
きゅうじゅうきゅうさいは はくじゅ というのですが、なぜ しろ という かんじを つかうか わかりますか？
In Japan, we celebrate a long life at various ages over 60.
60 is called kanreki, 70 is called koki, 77 is called kiju, etc.
Each age has its own name.
99 is called hakushu, but do you know why we use the kanji 白 for it?

※The answer to the question :
100（百）ー1（一）＝99（白）
The kanji for 100 is 百, and when you remove one (一) from it,
it becomes 白.
That’s why we use 白 for 白寿(the celebration of becoming 99 years old).
