Good morning, it's Thursday. This is Guru's Tech Bytes, episode two hundred.. Now look, I'm not gonna lie to you, I woke up this morning and I thought, you know what, AI is gonna take my job, but then I remembered I don't even have a job, so. Heh. Hhh, okay, that's something. Anyway, we got four stories today and they're all about PHP and security and Meta getting their butt handed to them, so let's just get into it.
First up, PHP eight point two point thirty-five just dropped, and folks, over a thousand people upvoted this on Hacker News, which means the PHP community is alive and kicking. Now I know what you're thinking, PHP, really? But hey, this thing runs most of the web, and they keep patching it, and honestly, that's kind of beautiful in a stubborn, blue-collar kind of way, you know what I mean?
Second, there's a PHP security release today, and the team is talking about how they're strengthening security going forward. Now that's music to my ears because, look, I've been burned by bad code before, and when a project says, hey, we're taking this seriously, that's the kind of thing that makes me want to stick around and keep building stuff on top of it, you know, keeps me going.
Third, Meta got ordered to pay twenty-five billion dollars in the New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case. Twenty-five billion. I mean, I can't even split a restaurant check without arguing with my buddy Dave, and these guys just got hit with that kind of number. It's about selling people's health data, which, yeah, that's not okay. Good. Serve 'em right, honestly. I hope they feel it in their wallets.
And finally, there's a PHP vulnerability out there, but the good news is there isn't an easy exploit for it. So, you know, panic level is low, but you still want to patch, right? That's the thing about security, it's not about waiting for the hammer to drop, it's about keeping your tools sharp every single day. That's just common sense to me, and I think most folks would agree.
That's your daily byte. Have a great day. Until next time.
