Prudence is wise foresight and strategic thinking. It is wise strategy applied before action and involves thinking ahead, avoiding traps and acting wisely in complex situations. Prudence could be used positively for good or negatively for evil. The Book of Proverbs is given to teach simple people prudence. In this message we consider eight characteristics of a prudent person:
1, be self-controlled (Proverbs 12:16)
2, be selective in speech (Proverbs 12:23)
3, be thoughtful in action (Proverbs 13:16, 14:8)
4, be discerning (Proverbs 14:15)
5, be teachable (Proverbs 15:5)
6, be kind in speech (Proverbs 16:21)
7, be eager to learn (Proverbs 14:18; 18:15)
8, be forward looking (Proverbs 22:3; 27:12)
