Before he was Field COO for public sector at Procore, AJ Waters was an engineer whose actual job on a project was moving RFIs out of his company's spreadsheet and into the owner's spreadsheet, then carrying the answer back. His words: "I was the API between the two systems."
He says that's still the reality on almost every job site.
This week we get into public sector construction, where every dollar spent on software is a dollar a taxpayer thinks should've gone to a project. Owners maturing off spreadsheets. Data centers as infrastructure, and the Nebraska power plant that had no customer until one showed up. And AJ's bigger argument — that construction spent twenty-five years digitizing paper and called it transformation.
Plus the Empire State Building, built in under a year with everybody working out of the same building. Which last time I checked is not how we do it anymore.
New episode every week.
