Staying at the lower weights, but not the low weights, our next randomly selected Ring Magazine fight of the year is from 1994 - a middleweight fight for the WBA belt between champion Jorge Castro (in his second defense) and challenger John David Jackson. The challenger was once the title holder, but was stripped for fighting an opponent who was not the WBA mandatory - a tale as old as time in boxing.
There is always something extra about a fight between a guy who used to be the champ trying to regain the belt but extra so when he did not lose the belt. Jackson was still undefeated at 34-0 coming into this bout, with the new champion Castro holding a distinguished and LONG record himself, at 95-4-2.
Something would have to give in this battle - tune in and find out from Rob and Butch!
