Description

Social entrepreneur and changemaker Whitney Williams joins 100 Stories for a conversation about storytelling, philanthropy, documentary filmmaking, political narratives, community voice, and the power of a single human story.

Whitney grew up in a family of changemakers with an expectation that everyone had some role to play in making the world better.

Her father gave her a phrase she has carried throughout her life: “There’s a genius on every block.”

That belief — that wisdom often already exists inside the community closest to a problem — has shaped how Whitney approaches philanthropy, social impact, filmmaking, and leadership.

We talk about why one person’s story can sometimes move us more than statistics describing hundreds of thousands of people, and how that affects which problems receive attention and resources.

Whitney also shares what documentary filmmaking has taught her about narrative power: stories become stronger when the people living them have a meaningful role in telling them.

We explore her experience running for governor, gender and leadership narratives, the influence of media and money on public stories, and what happens when repetition begins to make one version of reality feel inevitable.

And we come back to something very simple: listening to each other.

The question I’m leaving with:

Whose story is missing from the version of reality you are hearing most often?
