Kelvin Watson, executive director of Las Vegas - Clark County Library District, discusses his career trajectory, challenges of leading libraries, book banning and removal, his experience as Library Journal's 2026 Librarian of the Year, the Library of the Future Award, the digital divide and digital literacy, library impact and initiatives, advocacy and community engagement, and his literature and reading habits.

Under his leadership, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District won the Library of the Future Award (an unprecedented three years in a row) and partnered with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to provide digital access to the bus system.
