Brit Stueven sits down with David Comstock — head pastor at Mosaic Church, husband, dad, “Gampa,” — and someone whose story starts in a place you might not expect.
They kick things off with David almost saying yes to doing stand-up comedy at Not Til Now (still on the table, by the way)…and how that eventually turned into something much deeper.
In this conversation, David shares the story behind “thump” — what he calls the universal sound of hard work…and more specifically, the kind of primitive work we tend to avoid.
He opens up about his past addiction, the moment his body hit the floor after a near overdose, and the experience he had there — one that completely challenged everything he thought he knew about God, shame, and second chances.
They also talk about the tension between hiding and wanting to be found, why we’re so afraid to be fully known, and what actually happens when we finally stop pretending.
There’s SO much in this one — faith, doubt, rock-bottom moments, rebuilding, public-speaking fears, and the reminder that nobody starts out good at anything.
