Description

Diana Luna is running for Texas House District 71, where the Stargate data center landed and rents jumped $300 in six months. She never wanted to run.

Diana Luna is a data analyst, a mom, and an organizer from Abilene — the West Texas district where hyperscale AI data centers are now reshaping rent, water, and who gets to stay. She spent months trying to recruit somebody else for HD-71. She said no repeatedly. Then Wendy Davis drove out to have lunch with her.

In this Breaking the Meta interview, Diana walks through what happened to her hometown when the Stargate project arrived: data centers calling property owners and offering to double the rent if they'd break a tenant's lease, families pushed out, a traffic problem that became a homelessness crisis inside six months. She explains why she wants a moratorium on new data centers, why the Texas water crisis and the AI buildout are the same fight, and what the SB2 voucher program is doing to independent school districts.

We also get into why voting in Texas is hard on purpose — Tarrant County cutting 92 polling locations, no same-day registration, no automatic registration at 18, and a Secretary of State system that parks fully verified voters in “pending” indefinitely. And why a deep-red district full of lifelong Republicans is willing to hear out a Democrat: “They trust me not because I'm a Democrat. They trust me because I'm their neighbor.”

Plus the down-ballot Texas roster nobody is covering, and why Diana believes that if West Texas goes blue, the rest of the country follows.
