1 Peter 2:9–10 declares the new identity of believers in Christ: a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging to God. Once alienated and without mercy, they are now recipients of God's mercy and brought into His people. Salvation is not only rescue from sin, but also a calling into mission.
