Strive Always
Perseverance is a virtue that doesn’t get enough attention.
Maybe because you can’t see it in a moment. Perseverance is possessed over time—over months, years, a lifetime of continuing to strive.
St. Teresa of Ávila captures this beautifully:
“Come what may, happen what will, let those complain who will, tire yourself as you must. But even if you die halfway along the road, tend always toward the goal.”
Even if you die halfway along the road.
That’s perseverance. Continuing to tend toward the goal, no matter what.
If you’re reading this, you’re on the journey of faith. You’ve had setbacks. You’ve had successes. You’ve stood on mountaintops and walked through valleys.
But whether you’re in the middle of a setback right now or coming off a mountaintop experience, the call is the same: keep striving.
Tend toward the goal.
Pick yourself up when you fall. Take comfort in the fact that we’re all doing this together. You might feel alone, but you’re not.
We’re all striving. We’re all tending toward the same goal.
So let’s pray for one another. And let’s keep going.
Let us pray.
Lord, give us the grace of perseverance. When we want to give up, strengthen our resolve to keep striving. Even if we die halfway along the road, let us die still moving toward You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Keep fighting the good fight. Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.
