Where We Expect Him
“How many souls are troubled by doubt because God does not show Himself in the way they expected.” —J. Leclerq
The problem isn’t that God doesn’t show up. It’s that He doesn’t always show up where we expect Him.
We look for God in the big moments—the dramatic answers to prayer, the obvious interventions, the clear signs. And when we don’t see Him there, doubt creeps in.
But doubt often works quietly. We might not consciously think, “God can’t do this” or question His power. Instead, we fall into pessimism. We assume things won’t work out. We plan for the worst.
That’s doubt wearing a disguise.
When I catch myself falling into pessimism, I have to ask: Am I actively believing what God can do? Or am I passively assuming He won’t?
God shows up. He’s working. But often not in the ways we expected—not in the timeline we wanted, not through the means we anticipated, not in the circumstances we assumed.
Our job isn’t to tell God how to show up. It’s to have eyes to see Him when He does.

Let us pray.
Lord, forgive us when we limit You to our expectations. Open our eyes to see You at work, even when it doesn’t look the way we thought it would. Help us recognize Your presence in the unexpected places. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Keep fighting the good fight. Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.
