Willing to Fight
It’s around that time when many New Year’s resolutions are beginning to falter.
Maybe we came out too strong. Maybe we were sprinting when we should have been thinking about a marathon.
That’s okay. You can pick yourself back up and start again.
The journey in this life is often that starting over. Failing, getting back up, trying again.
It’s important to remember: failing is not the same as giving up.
Failure is going to happen. You’ll miss days. You’ll fall short. You’ll stumble. That’s part of the journey.
Giving up is different. Giving up is when you stop trying altogether.
St. Francis de Sales captures this perfectly: “Fortunately for us, in this war we are always victorious provided that we are willing to fight.”
Read that again. We are always victorious—provided that we are willing to fight.
Not provided that we never fail. Not provided that we do it perfectly. Provided that we’re willing.
Willing to get back up. Willing to try again. Willing to keep fighting.
So if those resolutions have started to weaken, it’s okay. Just don’t give up. Don’t stop fighting.
The victory is in the willingness.

Let us pray.
Lord, when we fail, help us get back up. When we stumble, help us try again. Keep us from giving up. Make us willing to fight, day after day, even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Keep fighting the good fight. Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.
