Part of the reason we’re doing this is because the community of listeners who are part of Boss Barista is so different than it was just a few years ago. But also, many of these episodes carry lessons and ideas that I still carry with me and are worth revisiting.
Some of you might know that before I worked in the service industry, I was a teacher, and I was on a very narrowly-drawn path for myself. I thought I’d teach for a few years, go to law school, and felt like I had things all figured out. But then I started working as a barista, and it felt like a completely different version of my life began.
Nigel Price has a similar story: the owner Drip Coffee Roasters in New York started in finance before discovering coffee, and it led him down a completely different, unscripted plan for his life. Yes, this episode is about coffee (we talk a lot about pourovers) but it’s also about how we end up where expect—and don’t expect—in life.
