Description

Hey friends. For the rest of the year, we're bringing back old episodes of Boss Barista. Part of the reason we’re doing this is because the community of listeners who are part of Boss Barista is so different than it was just a few years ago. But also, many of these episodes carry lessons and ideas that I still carry with me and are worth revisiting.

Some of you might know that before I worked in the service industry, I was a teacher, and I was on a very narrowly-drawn path for myself. I thought I’d teach for a few years, go to law school, and felt like I had things all figured out. But then I started working as a barista, and it felt like a completely different version of my life began.

Nigel Price has a similar story: the owner Drip Coffee Roasters in New York started in finance before discovering coffee, and it led him down a completely different, unscripted plan for his life. Yes, this episode is about coffee (we talk a lot about pourovers) but it’s also about how we end up where expect—and don’t expect—in life.
