When reports come from Arabs, there’s a tendency to assume they lack objectivity. But snap judgments based solely on ethnicity are nascent racism demanding repentance. Israel’s enemies aren’t defined by ethnicity but by ideologies—by what they believe and do. This week I sit down with Israel’s foremost journalist on Palestinian affairs, Khaled Abu Toameh, an Arab Muslim Israeli and my friend for nearly 13 years. We discuss Trump’s 20-point peace plan, Hamas’s refusal to disarm, the impossibility of de-radicalization while glorifying October 7th, innocent Palestinians opposing Hamas, Mahmoud Abbas’s succession crisis, and grave concerns about escalating West Bank violence and mounting tensions between Israeli Jews and Arabs. As we consider our human tendency to judge others by appearance or ethnicity, remember what God told Samuel: “Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” He sees what we cannot.
