On this program, I examine a fascinating development—Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal and early Facebook investor, is delivering sold-out private lectures about the Antichrist at San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club. Despite being an openly gay, libertarian venture capitalist worth over $20 billion, Thiel is deeply engaged with biblical prophecy, using Daniel, Thessalonians, and Revelation as his primary sources. He’s developed what he calls “the plot hole” theory—that the Antichrist will use fear of nuclear weapons, AI, pandemics, and global catastrophe to scare people, then offer to save them with the slogan “peace and safety” from 1 Thessalonians 5.
This raises a sobering question: Why is a secular tech billionaire talking about the Antichrist when so many pastors won’t? Paul taught new believers in Thessalonica about the Antichrist, the Rapture, and the Day of the Lord in just 6 to 8 weeks, giving them a crash course in eschatology. Yet today, most churches have abandoned teaching prophecy altogether. When secularists begin to wake up to the rise of the Antichrist, it should wake the Church to the nearness of Christ’s coming.
In the second half, I continue our exposition of Revelation with chapter 14:1–5, examining the triumphant 144,000 who stand with the Lamb on Mount Zion. After the darkness of chapter 13’s focus on the Beast and his Mark, chapter 14 provides an interlude of encouragement—a preview of coming attractions showing God’s ultimate victory. I explore five characteristics of these conquerors: they are preserved (all 144,000 make it through the Tribulation), purchased (bought from the slave market of sin), praising (singing a new song only they know), pure (celibate male virgins devoted entirely to the Lord), and pursuing (following the Lamb wherever He goes). Their example calls us to live triumphantly in our own challenging times.
