In this report from Jerusalem, I examine two critical questions that every Western observer of the Israel-Gaza conflict must understand: Why does Hamas lie, and why are we in the West so susceptible to believing those lies? Originally planning to cover the top seven lies about Israel in Gaza, I realized we first need to understand the foundational issues driving this deception.
I take you through Hamas’s own charter—both the 1988 original and the 2017 addendum—revealing their explicit commitment to Israel’s complete annihilation “from the river to the sea.” Despite claims of seeking peace, their charter makes clear that they believe any coexistence can only occur “under the wing of Islam” with non-Muslims relegated to second-class dhimmi status. Their official slogan declares “Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes,” yet Western media continues to treat them as legitimate negotiating partners.
The religious foundation for Hamas’s systematic deception is taqiyya—the Islamic doctrine that permits and even mandates lying to advance Islamic conquest. According to authoritative Islamic texts, war against “infidels” continues in perpetuity until universal Islamic domination is achieved, making any peace treaties merely temporary tactical maneuvers. I explore why our Western epistemology—our system for determining truth based on logic and scientific reasoning—leaves us vulnerable to believing these lies because we cannot comprehend the concept of permanent religious war. The dormant virus of antisemitism, now erupting globally after decades of post-WW2 dormancy, makes fertile ground for Hamas propaganda to take root. Understanding these dynamics is essential as we witness a cosmic battle between two worldviews: “Israel” meaning “to wrestle with God” versus “Islam” meaning “submit to Allah.”
