I have been slowly, imperfectly learning to offer my own body again as sacred, as you have. Not as something to be forgiven, but as something to be trusted.

They say Mary Magdalene was a whore, and then, to counter the insult, they insist she wasn’t. I have always been annoyed by both responses, as if womanhood must be defended by erasure, as if eros needs to be purified in order to be holy. The Gnostic gospels give voice to a whole other devotion between Magdalene and her beloved—one that does not split love from desire, spirit from flesh.
