I'm reading from The Big Sleep, a hardboiled crime novel written in 1939 by Raymond Chandler, as he introduces his character, Philip Marlow. The book is copyright-free here in Canada. It was adapted to film in 1946, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
Last time, Marlow confirmed his suspicion that Geiger's rare books, so carefully wrapped in brown paper packages, were porn. And that the General's daughter, Carmen, was a nude model for Geiger. Marlow finds her at Geiger's place, naked and comatose with drugs. And he finds the book dealer, clothed and dead. Next episode he will drive Carmen back home, in her Packard, and then follow up on Geiger's murder.
