Aethlelfaed, Lady of the Mercians was a warrior queen who not only successfully defended her territory against Viking incursions but took back land previously taken! She is an example of a powerful Anglo-Saxon ruler; powerful, capable and respected. Her role in the formation of England is often overlooked but in life, and death, she was vital!
