Florida has scrapped vaccine mandates for schoolchildren — calling it “freedom.” But real liberty is built on civic duty, not the license to endanger others. Measles is already back. Polio and diphtheria once killed and crippled thousands of children — horrors we’ve forgotten only because vaccines worked. Herd immunity protects the most vulnerable, and dismantling it is surrender, not freedom. The price of forgetting is paid in children’s graves. Florida has chosen amnesia; the rest of us must choose memory — and duty.
