Jerusalem’s rejection of the Christ child foreshadows her rejection of Jesus the man, a warning to readers of Matthew’s Gospel not to reject Jesus a third time, before His return. In our own day, the revelation is complete – all has been revealed – and so we cannot (we have no excuse if we do) return to pagan ignorance.
