Ringo turned 85 today (July 7). I had to stop and share with y’all how mind-blowing that is to me.
He’s outlived both my parents—Dad 5 years older, Mom 5 years younger—by a decade+.
Not my favorite Beatle (that's Paul), nor the most essential (also Paul, but I could make an equal case for John), nor the most mystical (George), just that rock solid drummer with a great sense of humor who fit into the Fabs' craziness perfectly.
Here are two things for y’all in honor of Mr. Starkey:
* Video of the Ringo Starr exhibit here in Nashville that I set to “Get Back.” Ringo has some history in Music City, recording both Beaucoups of Blues (1970) and Look Up (2024) here.
* One of my favorite Ringo moments, from the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh: “It Don’t Come Easy,” his #4 hit he recorded with George Harrison producing. Love seeing him pound the drums and sing with such force.
Upgrade to keep the stories flowing.
