“At many stages in the advance of humanity, this conflict between the men who possess more than they have earned and the men who have earned more than they possess is the central condition of progress. In our day it appears as the struggle of freemen to gain and hold the right of self-government as against the special interests, who twist the methods of free government into machinery for defeating the popular will…To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today….Now, this means that our government, National and State, must be freed from the sinister influence or control of special interests…so now the great special business interests too often control and corrupt the men and methods of government for their own profit. We must drive the special interests out of politics.” -Theodore Roosevelt

I discuss the New Nationalism speech and I included a condensed version of the speech itself in my Book “The Stories They Don’t Want you to Know

I think we could end the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics through Bernie Sanders Saving American Democracy Constitutional Amendment;

“Sanders’ Saving American Democracy Amendmentwould make clear that corporations are not entitled to the same constitutional rights as people and that corporations may be regulated by Congress and state legislatures. It also would preserve the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of the press. It would incorporate a century-old ban on corporate campaign donations to candidates, and establish broad authority for Congress and states to regulate spending in elections.”
