Lyrics
BerthaJerome J. Garcia / Robert C. HunterI had a hard runRunning from your windowI was all night running, running, runningI wonder if you care?I had a run-inRun around and run downRun around a cornerRun smack into a tree
I had to moveReally had to moveThat's why if you pleaseI am on my bended kneesBertha don't you come around here anymore
Dressed myself in greenI went down to the seaTry to see what's going downMaybe read between the linesHad a feeling I was falling, falling, falling
Turned around to seeHeard a voice calling, calling, callingYou was comin after meBack to me
I had to moveReally had to moveThat's why if you pleaseI am on my bended kneesBertha don't you come around here anymore
Ran into a rainstormDucked into a bar doorIt was all night pouring, pouring rainBut not a drop on me
Test me, test meWhy don't you arrest me?Throw me in the jail houseUntil the sun goes downTill it go down
I had to moveReally had to moveThat's why if you pleaseI am on my bended kneesBertha don't you come around here anymore
About the DayDays rarely get any better than these. It was a fine June Saturday in Carlsbad, California and it was a perfect way to say goodby to family, friends, and the band. In a few days I would be gone: flying off to Greece for the remainder of the month, then coming back stateside for a family reunion in Upstate New York.
My oldest just graduated Carlsbad High, kids were out in numbers, the summer was in full effect. Everyone was out in full force. To meet the crowd, we had a bunch of new material. We played 4 songs that we had never really played as arranged that night before, but we were feeling it. We had just finished programming the new Nord Stage 4 we picked up of the keyboard player, Mike Pritchard. Thus the reason why the keys sound like an interstellar spaceship.
