LyricsNo sight of the man on the interstateSpent a mess of time trucking on the road todayI got a one-way ticket babe the diesel down And I’m blowing off some doors as I pass each townAs I pass each town, lord I pass each townAs I pass each town, laying that diesel down

If you’re gonna do it, do it rightGrab your little woman, treat her right

Like a shotgun kick, I move as fast I canYes that’s the signature style of a do right manI know every action means the word to youThat’s why I’m driving so late to bring the goods to youBring the goods to you, Bring the goods to youBring the goods to you, Baby that’s just what I do

If you’re gonna do it, do it rightGrab your little woman, treat her right

Well it’s late at night and I need to knowJust what kind of love you’ve just got in storeI know outside its just a drizzling rainSo won’t you start a fire in the hearth again. In the hearth again, lord in the hearth againIn the hearth again, Light a fire in the hearth again

If you’re gonna do it, do it rightGrab your little woman, treat her right

About the SongDo It Right is a sonic love letter from distant roads to our loved ones stoking the fire back home. Many of us need to travel for work to make ends meet for the family. The traveling Ram knows that high-end hotels will always pale in comparison to the love that's in store back home.

The first time I wrote and performed this song was in 2006, to my newborn son Ronan, so I dedicate it to him, my pops Buzzy, and the women in my life. Love and Respect to my grandmothers, aunts, mothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, and daughters. You are perpetually in my thoughts, guiding my path through life, and teaching me how to love unconditionally.

The official single was the first take of our Carlsbad, California home studio live session recorded in early 2022. We played the song two times back to back. The alt-take was the second take where we stretched our legs a bit and explored some ideas while jamming the song out. Our normal tracking workflow leaves the drums & bass untouched, then we sparingly overdub the rest to achieve a sound true to our live performances. No click tracks were used, no quantization, just a legendary local drummer, Mike Hunt whom I played with for years. Local San Diego musician and engineer, Mike Butler took care of the mixing and mastering.  About the DaySeptember 8 was a classic California Indian Summer afternoon. It provided sweltering heat, Santa Ana winds, perfect surf. By the time I had all the equipment set up, I thought I was going to melt onto the stage. Throughout the show surfers and beachgoers came up the stairs, through the pentagon, to be treated with our band’s newly released music.

The full band was in top form from a packed summer of gigging, and I was in great shape (with great singing lungs) minus the knee pains that plagued me just a few months later. So often the show, the performance is enhanced by those in attendance. Some of my closest friends were there that day.

When I listened to the tapes of this show, the magic is undeniable.

You can see the locals moving in and out of the landscape, the Captain Kenos hat is worn my my brother in arms Mr. Able Perez, he’s an unofficial member of the band. When I first started writing, he was on bass. I think my favorite performance that night was ‘Come Easily’, it was as good that night as I’ve ever heard it played. A few weeks after, when I listened to the tapes of this show, the magic is undeniable.About the RamMark "The Ram" O'Donnell is an independent American composer, producer, filmmaker, multi-instrumental performer, designer, and visual artist based out of Carlsbad, California.
