LyricsAin’t no right ain’t no wrong when you sit and watch a new day dawnAin’t no wrong ain’t no right been sittin’ since the dark of nightWalked myself to the edge of townMade damn sure no one follow me downYes and to keep myself a little companyWell I gotta little hipper from the whiskey family
But it don’t, no it don’t, yes it don’tMatter much anywayAll alone, all alone, one and onlyHelp me get my thinking straight
Just cut the cable and the TV screen just a rabid dog barking back at meSo many voices chiming through my head can’t put a face to the words just saidGet more listening to the wind and rain r the rumble of a diesel trainCause a mans a man and a facts a fact, bBut those are lies and we can’t be lied to like that
But it don’t, no it don’t, yes it don’tMatter much anywayAll alone, all alone, one and onlyHelp me get my thinking straightYou cant tell a lie through a song and expect folks to listen all that longGuitar note catch a breeze and off it go, and whos gonna catch em I don’t knowWay over top a voice gonna hit that note and you know it’s coming from a blueman’s throat.Thats my version of a TV screen, you see it don’t have to be all obscene. But it don’t, no it don’t, yes it don’tMatter much anywayAll alone, all alone, one and onlyHelp me get my thinking straight
About the SongOne morning in Upstate New York found me on a rooftop drinking a little wine, and smoking some weed with the surviving members of a party from the night before. It was the day my cousin Salty graduated college by Lake Seneca in western New York State.
Ain’t no right, ain’t no wrong, when you sit and watch a new day dawn!
Visiting any college town was always an irresistible proposition during the years I went to university. Each college town was a new group of people of the same age group, making something out of nothing. Little else mattered back then. Every time I sing this song I laugh about the policeman who tried to talk us down from that roof. First threatening us, almost slipping off himself, then cussing us as he departed into his frustrated morning duties of crushing doughnuts.o.About the DaySeptember 8 was a classic California Indian Summer afternoon. It provided sweltering heat, Santa Ana winds, perfect surf. By the time I had all the equipment set up, I thought I was going to melt onto the stage. Throughout the show surfers and beachgoers came up the stairs, through the pentagon, to be treated with our band’s newly released music.
The full band was in top form from a packed summer of gigging, and I was in great shape (with great singing lungs) minus the knee pains that plagued me just a few months later. So often the show, the performance is enhanced by those in attendance. Some of my closest friends were there that day.
When I listened to the tapes of this show, the magic is undeniable.
You can see the locals moving in and out of the landscape, the Captain Kenos hat is worn my my brother in arms Mr. Able Perez, he’s an unofficial member of the band. When I first started writing, he was on bass. I think my favorite performance that night was ‘Come Easily’, it was as good that night as I’ve ever heard it played. A few weeks after, when I listened to the tapes of this show, the magic is undeniable.About the RamMark "The Ram" O'Donnell is an independent American composer, producer, filmmaker, multi-instrumental performer, designer, and visual artist based out of Carlsbad, California.
