The blip was an inevitability, and now it’s here.
After a remarkable undefeated run that stretched back 21 league games, the Gills lost out against Harrogate Town at home last weekend. And on Saturday, they fell to back-to-back defeats with a 3-2 reverse at MK Dons.
Goals from Seb Palmer-Houlden and Jonny Williams gave the scoreline a veneer of respectability, but in truth the Gills had been outmaneuvered and outplayed at Stadium MK as a Gills side without manager Gareth Ainsworth – recuperating after heart surgery earlier in the week – gave themselves too much to do after falling three goals down away from home.
