Back in August of 2023, I published an essay here at What Am I Making about moving to the small town of Bath in the summer of 1984. I was twelve years old. I did not want to move to a new place. I was sullen and furious.
In an effort to help me with the transition, my Dad pulled out an old history magazine and told me about a bombing known as The Bath School Disaster that took place in the town where I was moving away to. It’s a story of the roots of American domestic terror, the ways we forget our own history, and how hard it is to talk about our skeletons in the closet.
What follows is a podcast version of that story complete with new original music by me, Matty C. These musical sequences are from a new series of compositions that I am working on that I hope will become a full ambient record inspired by the Bath School Disaster.
I hope you enjoy this podcast version of the story.
Cheers,
Matty C
