Description

My Mom and I just got home from a two week adventure in Central America. It was a trip that came to be after VISA issues derailed our journey to Southeast Asia last Fall. This sojourn, borne of heartbreak in a Chicago airport, blossomed into an immersive look at a shared colonial past in a trio of breathtaking countries.

With a cocktail in hand - you can hear the ice cubes clink from time to time on the tape - Ama and I set to rehash the highlights of our remarkable trip together. I had unknowingly ambushed her with the recording setup. I had asked her to come by and have a conversation on the record, but she didn’t realize I meant it literally. Still, she was game and we set to recording.

During the chat, we cover many of the highlights of our adventure, including the El Salvadoran elections, a night in the jungle, the surprising dearth of Americans in Central America, as well as acknowledging a bit of our colonial legacy, both ancient and recent.

You’ll also get to hear two dear friends that manage to get along on the road incredibly well together. Come share our stories, our impressions, and the joy of our Central American sojourn. Join me and Ama for some travel talk.

Cheers,

Matty C
