We check in via some reporting in The Rooster with former Speaker Larry Householder as he acclimates to life in Jordan’s hometown of Lisbon, Ohio as a new inmate in Elkton FCI…(trigger warnings re: discussions of incarceration and suicide)
We then discuss Mill Run Gardens - the scheduled “Luxury, market-rate” apartment redevelopment of the Fishinger Road property in Columbus - around the former site of Movies 10 and featured in our article from last week.
Moving right along we head into talk surrounding the appointment of new members to two key commissions that the city relies on to conduct the critical business of Planning and Zoning.
Coming out of the P&Z talk the guys spend some time chatting about their own experiences in the residential housing market and topics like; the missing middle housing option people keep mentioning - adding 100k of value to property without individual effort and what that does to people aging in place - and a few other observations.Lastly, we talk about the (then upcoming) “Save Hilliard” rally and the (at the time) just happened Monday September 11 School Board Meeting which seemed to point to a concerted effort between members of both Council and School Board to halt all proposed development related to the Community Plan or at the very least - make it a prominent election issue.
The motion to withdraw the proposed language failed - as did the motion itself - in a series of deadlocked 2-2 votes with board member Nadia Long absent.
Our written piece on this meeting should be coming later in the week!
