Psalm 79 is a communal lament surrounding the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. The people know the calamity is because they have sinned but now ask for justice from the God they know is compassionate. Because Jesus Christ took on the sin of his people, he himself bore the suffering of Psalm 79.
