Last year we published an edition of FrontLIne with the theme, " God, the Christian, and Human Government." We interviewed most of our authors for that edition, but one of them was in the middle of writing a dissertation so he wasn't able to talk about his article at that time.
This week, I had the chance to sit down with my friend Mike Ascher and talk about his article, "Mutual Aid: The Christian and Law Enforcement." Mike is a police chaplain and has served in that role for 26 years while also serving in the pastoral ministry.
Mike is the pastor of Good News Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia and a chaplain with the Chesapeake police department.
I have to say one of our most important ministries in the FBFI is our chaplaincy program. We have some fine men and women serving in these roles, both in all the branches of the military as well as in local services like the police, local hospitals, and fire departments. Mike is the chairman of our Chaplaincy Commission. He'll tell you a bit more about what he does in the interview. His service here is an important part of what we do in the FBFI.
Back to the subject of Mike's article - Mike's focus is especially on the ministry Christians need to have towards the law enforcement officers in our communities. These men and women are vital to an orderly society and good government. They serve in an increasingly stress filled environment where many people are actively hostile to them and the difficult work they have to do. Their spiritual needs are great. We can be God's servants to them even as they are serving us.
Mike's article is available on our Substack right away for everyone, since after one year we make issues of FrontLine freely available to all.
I encourage you to join with us and support the ministry of the FBFI by becoming a paying subscriber to the substack and subscribe to FrontLine magazine. We appreciate your continuing support of our ministry.
