Description

Namaskar,

We bring to you the podcast on The Great Game i.e. rivalry between the British Empire and Russian Empire from Central Asia to Persian Gulf all the way to North Western India. The podcast explains the British anxieties over ever expanding Russian empire into central Asia and towards the British Indian territories. We discuss in this podcast the Anglo-Russian rivalry from the Pamirs to Karakoram to Gilgit Baltistan and how it shaped the geo politics in the region in the 19th and the 20th Century.

The podcast further talks about British double cross in Gilgit Baltistan and how they maneuvered the political situation in Jammu & Kashmir to protect its strategic interests on encroaching Russian influence and trade routes across central Asia. With the decline of Dogra empire the British double crossed India with Gilgit scouts overthrowing the Governor of Gilgit in October 1947 and enabling the illegal occupation of Gilgit Baltistan by Pakistan.

The podcast further discusses how the Great Game between Britain and Russia shaped the fate of the Aksai Chin region, where Soviet Union & China collaborated to mine this mineral rich region to fuel the Soviet Nuclear Program and strengthening Mao’s hands on its North Western flank.

The espionage by British from Gilgit Baltistan on Sino-Soviet activities and the cold war between two blocs shaped the history and geography of the region. The choices these powers made proved fateful leading up to 1962 Indo-China war. We decode the games that were played across this region that have festered conflicts for decades.

We really hope you like the podcast.
