This week on CPC, we’re sharing a new episode of the Creative Parenting Podcast with a special guest: DJ Dmitry, musician, producer, and co-creator of the iconic dance band Deee-Lite.
When this conversation was first suggested, we summed it up: “We’ve got ourselves a legend.” And while you might not immediately recognize the name, you definitely know the music. Deee-Lite’s Groove Is in the Heart became a global anthem. This song influenced the sound and visuals of 90s dance culture.
This conversation goes beyond Dmitry’s music career and into everyday family life. In Berlin, he’s a parent at Kita pickup, unmistakably funky-well dressed, and raising three kids while continuing to make music with his wife and musical partner.
Like so many of our guests, Dmitry doesn’t pretend to have parenthood figured out. He reflects honestly on the process, the contradictions, the limits of time, and the joy. He also reminds us that creative parenting isn’t about perfection, but about showing up, staying patient, and being present.
