Description

Pull up a chair to the Contented Table for a pause, in the midst of summer.

Bring Peace to your table and rest for your spirit through His words of nourishment for body and soul.

In Session 3, of our Summer Bible Study, we sit around my kitchen island. Lean in, to hear what the Word tells you about restful gathering.

I’ve taken the notes for you. All done.

The Bible passage:

Mark 14: 22-25 and Hebrews 9: 16-23

Application to your everyday nourishment:

Knowing that Jesus used everyday foods to welcome you to Him, shows you:

* Everyday food items can remind you that Jesus offers you the source of Peace and Rest for your table.

* Your table can be a place of thankfulness even when facing hardship (Jesus faced crucifixion the next day yet gave thanks).

* Your table can be a sanctuary of gratitude, inviting others to sit and find a pause of Peace several times a day.

* Your posture of gratitude and thankfulness will increase the magnitude of peace and rest at your table.

Putting into Practice:

* Use the pause for food several times a day as a routine to practice thankfulness.

* Designate foods and fluids you have every day as a reminder to pause and fuel your gratitude.

* Start a live gratitude journal. Go around your table, or if it is just you, be intentional to say a thank you out loud even if grace is not yet your practice.

* Incorporate these statements into your grace-prayer and as conversation starters.

Questions that remain to keep seeking, to ponder, and to pray about:

* Have I accepted Your gift of Your sacrifice and believed Your forgiveness, Lord?

* Do I have a slingshot of gratitude as I meditate on Your sacrifice, Jesus? Do I marvel at You giving thanks for what was about to happen to You?

* Is my life reflective of a posture of gratitude? Show me how, Holy Spirit.

Small Group Reflections:

* Do you have a specific prayer request about this? I would like to pray for you.

* What did you hear when you read or heard this passage? Let’s share insight.

* Pull up a chair around the table to continue the conversation as we seek, ponder, and pray over these questions with Bibles and hearts open.

When you accept His gift of sacrifice and believe His forgiveness, you will have the natural tendency of thankfulness and gratitude. This brings Peace to your table and rest for your spirit.

I look forward to seeing you again in two weeks for our fourth and final Summer Bible Study Session. We will be looking forward to the Great Banquet Table together.

Bring a friend, there’s always room for one more,

Jane
