Moya Dodd is a self-confessed football nut who has had lots of adventures in football. In fact, she has played 3 different codes of the game in her life. Including playing at the highest level for Australia for The Matilda’s, Australia National Football (soccer) team. In our conversation, Moya and I reflect on her career, from the early days when women literally had to fund themselves and fundraise to get to any kind of game through to today, when we are still fighting for equality for women in sport. We discuss how the system of sport changes for the better, for example Title IX in the US and how important quotas are to accelerating representation of women. We also affirm how important it is to have women in all the places where decisions are being made about sport. We also discuss what being a trailblazer feels like, especially under extreme pressure and duress. This is conversation not to miss, because it will give anyone who is serious about smashing the patriarchy in sport a how to guide. About Moya: Moya Dodd is a lawyer, sports administrator and a former vice-captain of Australia’s women’s football team, the Matildas. She played in FIFA’s first ever women’s tournament in 1988. Twenty-five years later, she joined the governing body of FIFA - among the most privileged and male-dominated institutions in the world – as one of the first women in its 108-year history.
