Yesterday, I commented on social media about the unparalleled Stock Market free-fall we’re experiencing due to Donald Trump’s stupefyingly asinine tariff war.
I noted the profound economic trauma it is causing the world and hundreds of millions of Americans, and I received a reply from a young mom from Texas with both Jesus and an American flag in her bio, similar to many I’ve gotten recently:Cry harder! You woke Leftists have lost!
Wait… woke lost? Is that possible?
After some uncomfortable soul-searching and a quick perusal of the news, I had to hand it to my compassionate, eloquent, and well-informed online adversary.
She was right:
It appears that our woke agenda has been defeated.We radically believed that Americans who’ve busted their asses for decades shouldn’t have the fruits of that lifetime of labor wiped out in a few weeks, all because of the senseless rantings of a cognitively-decimated Russian asset. We decided that the elderly shouldn’t lose access to the healthcare and financial support they have earned. We have unequivocally lost that battle.
Having been so poisoned by liberal media, we concluded that people shouldn’t be indiscriminately kidnapped from their homes, college campuses, church meetings, and worksites, and sent to foreign prisons without due process—all because of the color of their skin, a rally attendance, or a social media post. Again, we have been defeated.
In our terminal wokeness, we thought every woman was an actual sentient human being who deserved to have agency in what happens to and within her body, deciding her destiny in collaboration with her family and her physicians—not having it determined by politicians. We have been soundly thrashed on this front, as well.
Indoctrinated by nefarious elementary school teachers, heretical left-wing pastors, and our grandparents, we grew up believing that empathy for others: the sick, the poor, the different, the vulnerable, was the path worth taking; that diversity, equity, and inclusion were the markings of decent human beings. We’ve been thoroughly trounced.
We confess to having waged a vile, perverted progressive war in the cause of a kinder, more diverse, more compassionate nation where access to education, care, opportunity, and dignity is the right of every human being—and the Right has been largely victorious against us.
Our woke agenda was affordable healthcare, well-funded public schools, participation in global partnerships, qualified Cabinet members, a secure Rule of Law, and an America that was not a planetary pariah… and we seem to have lost.
So, I congratulate that strident Texas mom and the rest of the MAGA faithful who are taking a well-earned victory lap while the Constitution they claim to love is being dismantled and the teachings of Jesus they supposedly passionately subscribe to are being pissed all over by an incoherent felon-rapist and a delusional, insecure billionaire who now has near complete access to their finances and personal data.
I mean, sure, they are losing their life savings, their jobs, their possibilities for the future—and yeah, their children will inherit a dark, joyless fascist dictatorship not unlike the ones that their parents and grandparents sacrificed, bled, and died opposing.
I imagine that’s all a small price to pay for owning the Libs.
You won, MAGAs.
It appears you and your president have defeated our woke agenda.
