1 Peter 1:21, "Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God."
Our faith and our hope is in God, not in ourselves. Some people have developed the idea that having faith in "faith" is enough to produce happiness or health or good times in a person's life. I heard this philosophy in a self-help program before I became a Christian.
However, the Bible contradicts this philosophy as faith as an end in itself. The Bible teaches us to have faith and hope only in God. Not just any God of our own understanding, but the God who is revealed to us by the Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6-7.
Lord, I've seen so many people swept away by false religion and philosophy. They joined self-help groups or programs to get help for addiction or some other life controlling problem, but they end up with something much worse that addiction: a false religion that will damn their soul for eternity. Oh Lord, send your word into the midst of these groups to save souls and deliver them from the deceiving spirits and doctrines of devils, in Jesus name. Amen.
