Alma Mahler married Gustav Mahler in 1902 when he was 41 and she was 22. Both were accomplished composers.
In a famous letter, Gustav famously insisted that Alma cease composing as a condition of their marriage. Watch Cate Blanchett read that letter in the video below.

Nancy and I discussed issues of consent, gaslighting, and the sexual politics between powerful men and younger women.
The BPO’s ‘Mahler & Mahler’
On Friday November 7 and Saturday November 8 the Buffalo Philharmonic will present its “Mahler & Mahler” program which begins with six songs composed by Alma Mahler and performed by soprano Andrea Bickford (above).
