Description

We look forward to the Libra New Moon on October 10, 2026 at 11:50 a.m. ET. This week, the waning moon cycle is for finishing up, focusing, recycling, and shedding. The times I give are ET, so adjust for where you live.

I look at what each day is about energetically. How that lands for you depends on your individual horoscope: how you do life, the people you interface with, and what’s on your agenda. When I talk about the sign the moon is in, I highlight the areas of life that moon works well with, which may shift depending on your personal horoscope and what’s going on for you.

THE BACKDROP: VENUS RETROGRADE IN SCORPIO

Venus went retrograde last week and stays retrograde through mid-November, so keep these themes in mind. In Scorpio, she asks us to re-evaluate how we do love and money. Venus, goddess of love and beauty, is about money because she reflects what we think we deserve. In our society, what we’re paid reflects that.

Some people are comfortable with enough to cover expenses; they don’t need to stretch or want more. Others work hard, want and need more money and more possessions, and yet always feel a lack. You know your own relationship with love, money, and what you deserve, and Venus retrograde is saying: “How’s that working for you?”

Sometimes the love or money we want isn’t coming in. Perhaps the people nearest and dearest aren’t available, or there are limits. Or we look at someone and think: this person isn’t there for me the way I need them to be. It’s an evaluating time, and that’s valuable. The same goes for work: maybe there’s a limit to what we can ask for in our occupation, or a company repeatedly withholds the raise or acknowledgment we deserve. If a relationship or work environment isn’t giving you validation, it might be time to cast your net for another job or new friendships.

People from the past can also come back into our lives. For instance, I haven’t seen my college roommate in person for 20 years, though we’re in regular touch, and I’ll see her this week. For some of us, an old lover may crop up, which might be exciting — or meh.

In general, it’s not a great time to launch a new product or hang out your shingle, unless it has to do with renovation, recycling, antiques, or anything that revalues something that’s been put aside. Venus retrograde runs through mid-November.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 5: FINISH SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF

This moon in Leo is a wonderful time to complete things, especially a personal accomplishment. With Venus retrograde, you may not get all the kudos you deserve, but what matters is how you feel about it. How strongly this lands depends on whether something in your horoscope connects harmoniously with Leo, or which house Leo moves through, but overall it’s a creative thrust that builds into the evening.

Be crystal clear about the message you want to send, and about what you want to receive from a project or conversation as opposed to what you need. We may get what we need but not exactly what we want. It’s also a super time to meet old friends and share reminiscences that give a sense of the positive and of expansion. As you go over old memories, mine for gold: see something you overlooked, or realize the intrinsic value you missed back then. Plumb the past with fresh perspective.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6: PLAYFUL, THEN GET TO WORK

The moon goes void of course at 6:22 a.m. ET. When the moon is void, we’re NOT looking to move forward or take action. Work on what’s already in motion, finish up, and plan the next wave. In Leo, that can be creative, playful, even romantic and energized, a time to experiment and look at life with childlike abandon. Enjoy it, as long as whatever needs doing gets done, with time for serendipity.

The moon enters Virgo at 10:53 p.m., and that’s when we roll up our sleeves and get things in place for the next day, with laser focus on what needs to happen. A good night’s sleep is restorative. Virgo likes what’s therapeutic for the body and ways to maximize what you want to get done. It can be a bit tunnel-visioned, so keep your main priority in focus.

OCTOBER 7–8: VIRGO MOON. TUNE THE MACHINE

The moon goes void at 2:57 p.m. ET Wednesday. Use the morning to get out whatever messages you need to convey — prioritize. You can start new things in a waning moon, but it’s more productive to finish projects already in the works, because you’re going with the current instead of against it. If a long-term project continues past the new moon, address the pieces you want in place now so you can re-evaluate and push forward afterward. A Virgo moon supports figuring out how to fix something and make the machine hum.

From mid-afternoon Wednesday, the moon stays void until it enters Libra at 4:11 a.m. ET Friday the 9th. That long void is a super time to take care of how the machine runs: work on things already in process, enhance health or routine. Tweak and get the process into a groove.

Some of us have fixed sign energy: we do things a certain way, with a steady routine. That can lead to inertia, since stopping means rebuilding momentum, but once things are going, there’s a steadiness to it. Virgo is mutable, with elasticity and adaptability, which makes this a perfect time to settle into a routine you’ve been building, whether it’s exercise, diet, work, or healthy habits. Not to initiate a new program, but to solidify a routine.

We don’t want to reinvent the wheel under a void-of-course moon. We want to be in the zone and as present as possible.

In traditional astrology, the phrase for void of course is “nothing will come of the matter.” Anything you initiate or discuss, contracts included, doesn’t go where you intended, like an investment that doesn’t pan out. So concentrate on what you’ve already started and show up with presence. Observe what’s around you and flow with it as the moon finishes its journey through the sign.

OCTOBER 9–10: LIBRA NEW MOON. HOW DO WE PARTNER?

Libra sets up a very nice Friday evening heading toward the new moon, which hits exactly on Saturday the 10th at 11:50 a.m. ET. As we approach it, the new moon points to the partners who will show up and commit to the bloom of your intentions. With Venus retrograde, you may have a wonderful partner, friend, or colleague you love to work with, but look clear-eyed at who you want alongside you for this particular intention. Some people will be fabulous. Others, for whatever reason, don’t have the availability, skill set, or commitment to get it off the ground.

It may also be that the person you wanted to talk to about this project isn’t in a good place for it right now. The dark of the moon, before the moon gets its initiation from the sun, is a great time to see that. Evaluate the project, ambition, goal, or intention, and ask: do I have the right candidate(s) to make it work? Maybe you both need to be in a better place before you pitch it, so it unfolds in a way that makes sense. Or you may realize they’re the wrong person, or that this is something you have to do solo.

The new moon in Libra asks: How do we partner? How do we want to partner? Do we keep doing it the way we have, or seek change? Not necessarily romantic: it can be business, a ghostwriter, the right realtor to sell a property, a long-term partner or a temporary one. With this new moon, we can invite in the partners we want, or a new way of partnering.

Maybe the way I’ve been partnering isn’t working, and Venus retrograde is telling me so. How do I adjust what I seek, what I ask for, or how I position myself so the relationship is right going forward? It’s absolutely possible to bring that in energetically this lunar cycle.

After the new moon is exact, at 17 degrees Libra 22 minutes, a Mars-Venus square forms, a 90-degree angle from our perspective. It asks us to look at how we attract what we want (not just romantic partners) as opposed to how we go after it. Mars is assertion, our drive, how we pursue passion and desire. Venus is what attracts me and how I draw it in. In tension, they ask whether the two are aligned in how we operate. Some of us are born with them not aligning well, so it’s a continual process of understanding my drive versus how I receive, and balancing the two. This is a very auspicious new moon in Libra for insight and for the opportunity to work on that.

The moon goes void at 7:07 p.m. ET Saturday, its last aspect a sextile to Jupiter. So it can be a fortuitous day for looking at how aligned and clear we are in our messaging about what we want, in conversations with the people in our lives, and, most importantly, in the reciprocity: the giving and the receiving.

OCTOBER 11: SCORPIO MOON. SEE WHAT’S ACTUALLY THERE

The void runs overnight until 11:21 a.m. ET Sunday, when the moon enters Scorpio. Things get intense, because Scorpio is a fixed water sign, tenacious. Libra gets us to points of initiation, which is lovely with the new moon. On its heels, the Scorpio moon asks what the opportunities were, how some fall short or don’t deliver what’s needed, and whether the stretch is too wide. Sometimes we want it all now, or it’s not happening fast enough, and we’re not satisfied with what’s actually there. So on Sunday, look at what’s actually there. Evaluate it and see clearly as you move forward with this new moon’s manifestation.

Scorpio always follows Libra; that’s just how the zodiac wheel turns. If there was a host of possibilities the day before, the Scorpio moon digs in and asks: Is this really going to work? This investment may not pan out the way I want. Look closely to see which possibility is worth aiming for and putting your energy into.
