If you missed today’s episode of Time For Life, you haven’t had the chance to finally meet ‘in real life’ our guest, Jandro Kirkish !
Jandro has been part of the Chronically Illin’ Out Substack community for a while now. You have probably seen him hanging around ‘in a chat near you’. (Just kidding Jandro, we’ve all been there too).
Jandro suffers from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that severely damaged his digestive system. This dramatically led to life-threatening complications and severe health issues, that impacted the course of his life.
We discussed his earlier days, and younger self, who obtained a mathematics degree, and worked in neurosciences algorithm development. Interestingly, Jandro also spoke of his lifelong passion for composing music, which he also views like math as universal languages for connection and imagination.
Following his health complications, Jandro embarked onto an unexpected journey of healing throughout animal companionship and nature.
Standing out of our conversation is his near-death-experience which happened in 1995, where he suffered a severe asthma attack that caused him to stop breathing. He described experiencing a vast, perfectly dark, and timeless space devoid of thought, physical sensation, or self. He interpreted this profound emptiness not as a religious afterlife, but as the foundational awareness that connects all things. This experience led him to find an enduring and thoughtful sensitivity toward life, that allowed him to easily recognize the beauty and joy in everyday moments.
