Cold Open Question of the Week: When was the last time you were the center of attention?

This week, we welcome back our friend, Steve DeLaney, for his annual Advent visit, where he helps guide us through the Advent season as we prepare for Christmas.

Steve’s Substack, Some Things, is where he shares his writing and reflection during each week of the Advent season.

A teacher, writer, speaker and worker in Catholic ministry, Steve currently teaches high school students at Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in History from George Mason University, along with a master’s degree in Theology/Theological Studies from Catholic Theological Union, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Lindenwood University.

Steve resides in the Williamsburg area of Virginia, along with his family: wife, Allison; sons Joseph and Ben, and nephew Kaiden, along with their dog, Peach, who even has his own Instagram page.

Steve and I have been friends since 1990, when we met as freshmen at Pope Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Virginia, and our yearly gathering to discuss Advent and his reflections is always a highlight of the season and the year for me.

I hope you enjoy listening to Steve as much as I do.

From Gary and I, we wish you a Merry Christmas, happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

Dolan, 75, from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of New York, and appointed Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks, currently Bishop of Joliet, as the Metropolitan Archbishop of New York. Steve, who studied at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, the same school where Pope Leo once studied, if he’s had any run-ins with the new pope or archbishop.
