Title: Throwing Off Spiritual Weights

Bible Passage: Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

Episode Summary:

Elite marathon runners train with weights to enhance their performance on race day; this concept is paralleled with the spiritual weights that burden us in our walk with God.

Spiritual weights can be distractions, sins, or even good things like jobs and relationships when they hinder our devotion to God.

The author of Hebrews encourages us to lay aside these weights to run our spiritual race with endurance.

We are advised to:

Look back to the great cloud of witnesses, the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11, for inspiration.

Look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who endured the cross by focusing on the joy set before Him.

The episode emphasizes that while suffering is temporary, enduring it with our eyes on Jesus leads to eternal joy with God.
