We are still golden!

A new survey from the RTNDA with the Newhouse School at Syracuse University reports more radio stations are producing local news. The study showed just over 70% of the stations surveyed were running local news, a 6% increase over last year. This is the second year in a row the survey showed an increase, especially with commercial stations. Over 75% of commercial stations run local news, a ten percent increase. But non-commercial stations saw a slight decline, just under one percent. Interestingly AM stations led FM’s in producing local news, but FM stations were adding news at a faster pace.

And apparently, ownership was a factor for which stations saw newsroom growth. Locally owned stations topped non-locally owned stations in local news production. That phenomenon started for the first time with this recent survey. Over 71% of locally owned stations aired local news opposed to the 67% that are owned by outside entities. 🎙️
