...when news was news and not a bunch of political stories that jumbled our brains?

I've spoken about it before, and I'll say it again, there's a need to dip in and out of the news which has become even more prevalent this year.

Back in the days when I started writing news, it was different, political stories took a backseat to the rest of our daily news consumption.

A new report says people are not getting the news they want, or even need these days, and data shows people are sometimes even avoiding the news. The Digital News Report says 42% of news consumers in the US, 46% in the UK and more than 60% in various other countries were avoiding the news altogether.

The International Journalists Network reports traditional outlets failed to investigate what audiences needed based on their emotions. The article says we have been ignoring the human component and instead are relying on "soulless" metrics. The network reports taking matters into their own hands to find out what audiences really wanted with the help of journalists from all walks.

They are continuing the work to reimagine what journalism means now, and what it could be.

I, for one, am excited to see where this all leads.
