Just when you think you have everything under control at work, some massive news story breaks and you become frazzled. It’s how you handle breaking news, or some catastrophic event that sets you apart from the rest.

I remember in my 1st yoga training my teacher, who was a New York City resident (read: hustle and bustle) said “slow is fast”. She recalled being in a hurry to unlock her bike to get to her destination, and when she took her sweet time, it got her there faster. You know when you’re in a hurry to get out of the house, but you forget your car keys? So you have to rush back in grab your keys, then you realize, oh no, you forgot your lunch! (And on and on.)

It’s the same with breaking news, as the facts come in fast and furious, it doesn’t matter if you beat the competition, it matters that you get what is happening exactly right. If you have one detail wrong (and it’s a major moving part of your story), you could blow up your whole reputation.
