The Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States that a former president has substantial immunity from prosecution for official acts committed while in office, but not for unofficial acts. This ruling, with a 6-3 majority, sent the matter back to a lower court to determine if former President Trump is immune from prosecution for actions related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
