Good morning Listeners. Happy Thursday to you all. I'm coach Kate coming at you all with another motivation minute this morning. Yesterday we talked about the importance of rest, so today I wanted to dive into another subject close to my heart that is often misinterpreted or avoided all together: The Freedom of Discipline.
People tend to avoid this word, or think of it negatively-- and understandably so: it is fraught with the interpretation that can bring us back to our grade school years and getting disciplined wasn't a happy occasion. Usually it meant punishment, enforcement of rules, and more. So it's understandable that many people avoid this word-- and the ideas around it, because it can bring back a lot of baggage.
The truth is, discipline is not a bad word, or a punishment, or about restraining ourselves from joy. It's a word that can actually unlock freedom for yourself. I know I know, a lot of you don't put freedom or discipline in that same bucket, but it's true. The more disciplined we become, the freer we are to make the choices we can in our lives. The more we lack discipline over our choices, the more things get chosen for us.
So to dive into this a bit further, I found a quote from the troubled, but well spoken Marcus Aurelis on Discipline and what we are actually created for and it puts in perspective not only our discipline, but all what we're capable of as well. Here it is:
“At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?”
When we get more disciplined, we allow ourselves to create the life we deserve and we also honor our purpose as well. It's about freeing ourselves from the chains of bad habits, and we open the door for being the creator of our lives instead. So when you start your relationship with discipline, and you start setting up that life you dream of, think of discipline as a way towards freedom, think of discipline as a door, rather than punishment. Our job in this life is to be human above all, so what is calling you in your life to get closer to a purposeful human experience? Feel free to ask yourself today: what is more beautiful than living to your highest potential as a human being?
Let discipline guide you into your purpose, to allow you to gain freedom, and to help you get closer to the life you've dreamed. In a future episode, I'll dive into what ways we can cultivate discipline on both small and large scales, so be sure to follow along and stay connected so we can build out that routine together.
Thank you for listening. If you liked this talk, feel free to give me a follow, you can also find more of my talks under the talk tab on my profile too. Tomorrow I will be diving into a longer talk on two ways we can unlock potential in our lives, so be sure to tune in mid-day tomorrow to dive in and chime in too.
Hope your Thursday is an amazing one.
